Jaguar E-type (1968)

1964 brought the advent of a number of changes for the E-Type, namely the 4.2-litre engine. Although still offering the same 265 brake horsepower as the earlier 3.8-litre engine, the 4.2-litre motor now offered 83 more foot-pounds of torque. Another major change was the fitment of a new gearbox: a fully synchronized, four-speed manual transmission with a new Laycock diaphragm clutch. Engine cooling was also revised, and there was a new alternator to replace the generator. The brakes were improved with better power-assist, and the seatbacks were now adjustable. These changes greatly improved the overall feel and driving dynamics of the car, improving on Jaguar's already brilliant design.

Therefore with the above in mind, it is of popular opinion that the Series 1 4.2 is the E Type to buy as it retains the beauty of its predecessor (cowelled head lamps etc) but has the huge benefit of the various modifications as listed above. This particular example has been modified to a fast road example and is fitted with sports triple Weber Carburetors for intake and a tubular stainless steel manifold for exhaust and an up-rated aluminium radiator with thermostatic control has been fitted, probably as much for beauty as for functionality! This car really is the subject of much recent works which whilst not exhaustive include a full re-trim and respray, a new steering rack, hoses, belts, chromes, door handles, lights, engine mounts, plugs, leads, water pump, sump, bushes, ball joints, brakes and servo, reaction valve - the list goes on. In fact we estimate that well over £20,000 has been spent in 2017 alone and the result? Well, a stunning E Type in probably the best colour combination that just wants to go faster!
