Vauxhall H Ten-Four (1838)

A 10hp Vauxhall at heart with hydraulic brakes and independent front suspension, this rare Australian built example has been seemingly raised a little for the antipodean thoroughfares, and wears charming coachwork by Holden, which features a higher roofline, a split windscreen and a boot, neither found on U.K. cars of this era. Despite its rather rugged background the car still looks very sound and presentable. It arrived in the U.K. in 2008 and has been with one private owner since. The black paintwork has worn well and the interior appears to have retained a certain amount of originality, with blue vinyl seats and a correctly instrumented dashboard. The 1200cc o.h.v. engine starts easily, runs sweetly and driving through a three speed gearbox, offers respectable performance. Steering is light and the car is pleasant to drive.
