MG TD (1953)
MG TD 1953
Green and Tan
12 months MOT
Engine rebuild by George Edney of XPAG Engineering
This car has been owned by me for the last 14 years, acquired in September 1996, and is regretfully for sale due to a change in personal circumstances.
YFO 807 was built in Abingdon in 1953 for the USA, registered CNY 884. Originally it was Old English White. It returned to the UK in August 1990 for a complete nut and bolt rebuild, and right-hand drive conversion, which was completed in 1996.
When I bought the car the milometer showed a reading of 24,394, today it reads 45,229. I have the MOT certificates from June 1996 that evidence the mileage during my ownership.
In 1997-1998 the car had a complete engine re-build by George Edney of XPAG Engineering.
• The engine was re-bored to 1350cc
• New steel billet crank shaft fitted
• New light weight flywheel
• New larger 9 inch clutch
• Gearbox rebuild
• Rear axle check.
• New pistons
• New con rods
• Gas flowed & unleaded head
• New springs & valves
• Rebuilt water pump
• New fast road camshaft
• New sump
• New rocker cover
• New distributor and ht leads
• New pancake filters for the carburettors
This work delivered a noticeably improved performance, a more exciting feel, whilst keeping within the cornering and braking capabilities of the car.
In 1999 the nearside rear half shaft was replaced.
The interior is light tan leather and in good condition, complete with side screens, 3 hoop hood, and tonneau cover.
A stainless steel luggage rack has also been fitted.
The body is rust free, the paint finish is workman like but effective, which means that you can use the car regularly without worrying about having to maintain a concourse finish.
I have the car serviced prior to MOT every year, which always includes an oil and filter change, whatever the previous year’s mileage has been.
The car has had regular use, including MG Car Club and Octagon Club events, and classic car rallies.
The car will be provided with the following additional spares and parts:
• SU electrical fuel pump service parts kit
• Condenser
• Distributor cap
• Contact set
• Fan belt
• Spark plugs
• Brake linings
• Thermostat
• Windscreen wiper motor
• Fuel pump
• Original oil filter housing
• Universal joint for prop shaft
• Prop shaft
• SU carburettor tuning tool kit
• MGB anti roll bar
• Service handbook
• TD workshop manual
All invoices for parts and servicing for the last 15 years are available.
There are some minor paintwork blemishes, and the windscreen glass had cracked in a very small area in the bottom right hand corner, when fitted by the previous owner This has not deteriorated in the last 15 years, and is only noticeable upon close inspection.
This car is fun to drive, well maintained, and has been very reliable.
The car has good oil pressure, and does not suffer from overheating, which can be a common problem with XPAG engines.
This car looks right for the period, and has not been over restored, it’s a car that the next owner will enjoy driving and feel able to use regularly.
