SALE AGREED

This is an absolutely exceptional example, having been delivered new to Australia, only returning to the UK in the 1980s, and as a result in very sound condition. More significant still is the fact that since we last sold the car in 2010, it has been lavished with care and attention, amounting to about £80,000 of expenditure, including a full engine overhaul recently and conversion to 4.9 litres with twin SU carburettors. Other work has included a new stainless steel exhaust system, rebuilt radiator and water pump, attention to brakes, steering, gearbox, etc, a replacement rear axle (correct high ratio) and a great deal more. It even has parking sensors fitted! There is a summary of the work that has been done on our own website. Very smart paintwork in a lovely shade of deep red and silver/grey with excellent beige leather and red carpets and an all-round excellent example benefitting from upgrades, used extensively by the last owner, including continental touring, now ready for its next chapter in life. Lovely!

Chassis No. STH63 Reg No HSU 485

Snippets – Sailing for Gold
Ordered by Sir William Herbert "Bill" Northam (1905/88) born in Torquay but the family migrated to Sydney in 1910 & Bill was known in Australia as being the oldest Australian competitor to win an Olympic Gold Medal at the Tokyo Games of 1964. This was achieved in the 5.5m sailing event racing “Barrenjoey” with team-mates James Sargeant & Peter O’Donnell; they were in their 20s with Bill, the helm, being a mere 59 years old and a grandfather of 5 to boot! In the opening ceremony Bill marched alongside his son Rod who was the reserve for the Coxed Four rowing team. Bill’s other son Brian was also a keen sailor & alongside his father, became involved in the 1962 America’s Cup with “Gretel”. Sir William had STH63 delivered to Johnson & Johnson Pty in Sydney – he started working at Johnsons in 1932 and from 1946/60 he was MD of Johnson’s and remained on the board until 1969, Sir William also served on the boards of Penfolds Wines, Slazengers & F J Walker (his father-in-law’s firm)!
