Land Rover Series III (1971)
Its a 1971, so is TAX exempt. *From may 2018 it will become MOT exempt, as new Historic vehicle laws come into effect (full details of this can be found on DVLA website)
With insurance costing £100 a year it makes it a lovely little run around classic to own and use the odd day here and there (which is exactly what I've done with it)
When I bought it, it had been fully stripped and rebuilt, and was completed prior to my purchase.
I shall try to list (from memory what the restoration guy did)
New rear half chassis
New tailgate
New military door tops
New Fuel Tank
Axles rebuilt
New brake lines
New wheels
New 750 michelin tyres
Engine fitted - its got a 300 tdi fitted to the original series 3 gearbox. A popular modification making it start and drive easy and less maintenance. It is running as the basic engine (less the turbo- its not needed for power really in a little series 3) - but one could be added if you wish.
New brakes all round.
Side exit stainless exhaust.
New parabolic springs
New suspension bushings
There are other bits I have forgotten, it was also painted, this is the original colour for this car, and suits it well. It has mostly been sprayed, some parts have been done by hand. Its not a pro job, so please expect imperfections. However it stands well for a 45 year old car. will happily fire up after being left for weeks .
It has been fully checked over by a local garage and land rover specialist. He also MOT'd it
He said the brakes were spot on , nearly 100% in balance and commented thats unusual on a 45 year old landrover !
These will no doubt shoot up in value even more after may. Im only selling as I am reducing my number of cars due to house extension plans.
It currently has a full MOT, with NO advisories - thats rare ! it needs nothing, its got a full clean bill of health
Nice number plate (original)
Of course its 45 years old, it doesn't drive like a new defender !, It never has, they have character, and I assume you realise that !!
3 seats inside are fitted, standard ones, i was going to fit a set of deluxe ones but haven't got round to it. I had a side exit exhaust made, its fine, but on the noisy side, I only drive around 10-15 miles a time in this landy, so it doesn't bother me. If it bothers you then you'll have to pop a new one on.
