An attractive, elegant, coach-built MK VI which we understand to be the first of its ‘long wing’ design, in some ways giving it an appearance of a date slightly later than its year of manufacture suggests. In sound condition and benefitting from a great deal of attention over the last few years, including a thorough mechanical refurbishment and more recently an excellent re-upholstery job in blue/grey leather, with new carpets, headlining, etc. Running nicely, running on radial tyres which transform the handling & road-holding on these cars, and in good order, offered newly MoT tested

Snippets: The Battling Curries and Travelling Ayres
Alexander Harvey Currie was a grandson of Alexander Harvey who moved from Ayrshire in the late 1800s with his herd of cattle to take advantage of the newly opened railway line between Ingatestone & London & supply milk to the East End of London. Having lost 2 of his children he was asked to adopt a child of his cousin which he did – Robert Currie who later became Robert Harvey Currie, when Robert’s adopted father died he left the entire estate to Robert rather than to his only daughter Annie. Robert himself had 2 daughters and 3 sons with his eldest son Alexander Currie being the owner of B272LJ, Alexander’s sister Elizabeth died in 1947 leaving some 6,000 shares of the family’s potato business valued at £1 each to a married man - Claude Dixon – with whom she had forged a deep friendship, Robert Currie went to court to try to overturn the will but the judge decreed that Elizabeth Currie was of sound mind when she wrote her will. Prior to WWII the family home of Moulsham Lodge was used by a Scottish Regiment as their base and during WWII Italian PoWs worked on the farm, the Currie business by now had grown from a diary farm to seed potatoes and other vegetables as well as shops, a building company and the a main Ford dealership. In the late 1960s / early 1970s B272LJ was acquired by a career diplomat J. W. Ayres who had B272LJ shipped to Mombassa, upon arrival J. Ayres drove the car to Dar Es Salaam where he was stationed, after several African adventures with the family B272LJ was taken to Cyprus for the family’s next posting. It is not known if the Bentley accompanied the Ayres to the remaining postings which included Cameroon, Ecuador, Spain & Chile!
