A particularly smart, sound, handsome, spacious saloon with sunroof, described by Cockshoot as ‘close coupled’, although we don't really agree with this description as the car is spacious and sizeable internally. The car is finished to a high standard in black and deep plum red, with excellent, recent brown leather interior, carpets, woodwork, etc, all in lovely condition. Externally, the look is enhanced with a full set of ‘Ace’ wheel discs, finished in body colour and fitted with chrome trim rings and polished outer edges. The correct set of lamps and horns are in excellent condition, as is the rest of the chrome plating on the car. A fine example, currently fitted with power steering and air conditioning, although we are considering removing both of these additions to bring the car back to standard specification. Just fitted with five new tyres and heavy duty tubes, and to be prepared and MoT tested.

Snippets: Wines & The Stage
The 1st owner of GZR24 was Peter Yates (1854/1944) who in 1882, with his brother Simon, established Yates Bros & Co – Wine, Spirit & Cigar Merchants. Yates imported port from Spain & wine from Australia and they even invented their own range of drink called “Blobs”! During the recession of the 1930s, Peter who was a keen social reformer, he sold cheap soup from his wine lodges at a price of 1d. Within the Yates brand he became famous for his sayings “Wine is a good servant but a bad master” and “Moderation is true temperance”. Upon his death in 1944 Peter Yates’ estate was valued at £1,248,131 and the executors were his widow Sarah and his daughters Mildred (widow of Richard Martin-Bird) and Kathleen Dickson. The chassis cards show that the next two owners of GZR24 were Bernard Shackleton, a draper who lived in the Tollgate House in Nantwich, Cheshire followed by Mrs Robert Bruce (widow) of Doles House in Enham. Doles House had previously been the home of the noted Hampshire naturalist George Albermarle Bertie Dewar (1862/1934) whose publications include The Faery Year, The Leaning Spire & Memoirs of Sir Claude Champion de Crespigny. After WWII GZR24 was with Campbell Williams a Theatre Manager – from 1953/63 he managed the Arts Theatre in Soho which during the 1920s operated as “social rendez-vous bringing together those interested in the theatre from both sides of the curtain. The location is believed to have played host to gangsters & movie stars alike.....
