Riley 1.5-Litre (1936)
Riley Kestrel Sprite
You will agree with me that our classic car passion is based on emotions.
I have this thing with the Riley Kestrel of which I saw a 6 -light saloon when adolescent. I thought then and still do now, it was one of the best proportionned saloons, with beautiful flowing aerodynamic lines I knew from the 30-ies.
Having had the pleasure of owning quite some Riley's in my classic car career, I never encountered the Kestrel of my youth...until very recently in the UK. Exactly the same 6 -light saloon (3 windows at each side of the car) and even better, a genuine Sprite which means the car is powered by the excellent and much more powerful 1,5 L Sprite twin cam Riley eninge. The gearbox is, as for all the Sprites, the easy to handle preselect unit. My classic car colleague and Riley guru, Barrie Gillies, commented this Kestrel, after viewing and test-driving her, with the following words : "It is the Kestrel I would like to buy if I had the spare cash".
Structurally apparently very sound with some work on the ash framing excecuted recently, with some charming patina on body and original green leather interior, matching nrs, full history (all old log books available), I think I might keep this Riley a while in my own garage and enjoy her myself this autumn...
