A lovely example of the attractive ‘Teviot’ design, in fine condition throughout, and benefitting from recent improvements to paintwork and cosmetics generally, as well as a brake overhaul, and various mechanical work during the last ownership. The car was last with us five years ago, and since then has been used and enjoyed, including for wedding hire, has performed well, and drives very nicely. In fact it was driven over 200 miles to us, trouble-free and pleasurable. Very smart inside and out, with excellent paintwork and chrome, good beige leather to the front and excellent cloth to rear, lovely headlining, carpets and woodwork. The car also benefits from a sunroof to the front compartment. Mechanically very nice, and absolutely ready for its next life chapter.

Snippets: The Joneses
Between 1949 & 1953, WFC47 was registered to Norman Cyril Jones – who was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his war service during WWI the citation read “A gallant & skilful patrol leader who has proved successful on many occasions against numerically superior enemy formations.” In 1918 whilst piloting his Sopwith Camel Norman Jones was credited with 9 aerial victories – one of which he shared with the American flying ace - Charles Gray Catto, in April 1937 Charles Catto was elected Mayor of Taco, Texas. In 1943 Norman’s father John Jenkyn Jones (chairman of the family business passed away) and at the time he lived in Teak House in Branksome Chime, Bournemouth which he had purchased upon his retirement. Teak House dates from 1889 and in 1914 it had a 5-storey tower added to it. The 10 acre estate on which the property stood posted 2 tennis courts & when his daughter built her house “Denecote” it was located on one of these courts so that the view would remain unspoilt. During WWII Denecote was hit by a cluster of bombs but thanks to the room being reinforced the family were unharmed. John Jenkyn Jones was also a director of the Branksome Park Association (with their help & that of Iris Morris Books) we have been able to ascertain that the 3 Joneses are indeed related. The 2nd name on the chassis cards is that of W. Jones of Bournemouth – brother of Norman & son of John Jones but we are unsure how long he kept the car for. Norman Cyril Jones was a partner with Leslie Shaw & Christopher Cox in the firm Cox & Deakin (Valuers) and when Leslie Shaw & Norman Jones retired in 1974 the firm was taken on by Christopher Cox. In October 1950 Norman’s daughter Joan Pauline Jones married Robert Leonard Allmey (who became MD of the family firm Allmey & Layfield, sugar mills) – perhaps WFC47 was used as a wedding car even then!
