SALE AGREED

An absolutely exceptional and beautiful example, in totally original and unspoilt condition, with a known mileage of just 60,000 from new. We sold the car four years ago, during which time it has covered just 1,500 miles or so, and is still just as lovely as when it left us. We have considerable history, including invoices, MoT certificates, etc, confirming the mileage. The paintwork and chrome plating are both lovely, the interior is totally undisturbed, with nice, soft leather, and even the tool kit is virtually like new. The underside is wonderfully sound, and the whole car is just excellent in all respects. In 1998 and 2006, the car won first in conservation class at the RREC Annual Rally, which in itself, speaks volumes. They don't come along like this very often!

Chassis No. SYD232 Reg No. 47 GMO

Snippets: Ocean Voyages
SYD232 was purchased by Arthur Corben-Brown in the year that he turned 57, he was a boarded at Parkside House at Tonbridge School (created in 1553), past pupils of the school include Dan Stevens (actor), General Pierre Dumoustier (one of Napoleon’s Generals), Rt. Rev Edward Evans (Bishop of Barbados), E. M. Forster & Frederick Forsyth (authors), Professor Derek Barton (Nobel Prize Winner), Colin Cowdrey (Cricketer) & David Marques (Rugby). Arthur’s wife was Anita Joan Corben, her maternal grandfather Major John Godson (1834/80) served in India with the Madras Staff Corps, 2nd in Command, 4th Regiment; upon his return to the UK he died as a result of the injuries which he received during the Afghanistan campaign. Anita’s half-brother served during WWI and died in 1923 aged 30 as a result of mustard gas poisoning. Anita & Arthur Brown married in 1933 & in January 1946 they changed their surname by deed poll to that of Corben-Brown, we don’t know why they did this. In June 1924 The Musical Times published the list of the April graduates from the Royal College of Music - Anita Joan Corben is mentioned as having obtained a LRAM as a professional singer. In 1929 Anita accompanied her parents on round voyage from Southampton on the Arcadian and 20 years later in 1949 Anita & Arthur sailed on the Queen Mary from New York to Southampton. After 16 years with the Corben-Browns SYD232 was acquired by John Slater who emigrated to America, he arranged for SYD232 to cross the ocean on the vessel “Madame Butterfly” (after the opera by Puccini), where the car stayed for another 20 years until it returned to the UK.
