A fabulous car, handsome in design, which has been very well cared for, being for many years in the care of the late Sir James Cayzer, known for his wonderful collection of cars, particularly Phantoms, which were maintained to a very high standard at great expense. The 'dropping waistline' style is particularly appealing and tasteful, without being too extreme in our opinion. 'Restrained elegance' seems an appropriate term to use. It is beautifully finished inside & out, with excellent black paintwork, superb chrome plating, recent, high quality pale blue leather, very nice carpets, headlining, woodwork, etc, and drives & performs very well indeed. The engine is fabulous, being quiet, powerful, and runs nice and cool, which is very important in the case of a PIII. Comes with a file of maintenance invoices, and in excellent driving condition. A lovely car.

In 1937 3BT147 was delivered to Frank Bilton of The Grange in Willberby, Frank was a building contractor of some note – in 1897 aged just 25 he dissolved his partnership with John Henry Kennington and set up his own firm F. Bilton Ltd. F. Bilton’s construction was mainly in the Hull area and projects included shops, houses, a motor garage, chapel and a Fire Station complete with housing for the firemen & their families. In 1965 the firm of F. Bilton Ltd ceased trading - perhaps this coincided with his death? There is another notable builder with the surname of Bilton – that of Percy Bilton (prefabs) whose grandson is Anton Bilton – a property developer who recently refurbished the 18th Century Tyringham Hall prior to placing it on the market for £18million! Another notable owner of 3BT147 was Sir James Cayzer, scion of the shipping firm which had been founded by his great-grandfather Charles W Cayzer (1st Baronet) who in the late 1800s had amassed enough wealth which he used to provide a Scottish estate for each of his sons – he had 6 sons! Sir James Cayzer lived at Kinpurnie Castle - his great-grandfather Charles W Cayzer commissioned the architects Thoms & Wilkie to design the Castle in 1908. Other works done by Thoms & Wilkie for the Cayzer family include Gartmore House.
