Austin-Healey Sprite Mk I (Frogeye)

Vehicle Price: GBP 20,995
Advert Reference Number: 14627

The British Motor Heritage Certificate details that this leaf green Frogeye Sprite was built on 16th July 1959. The car was despatched on 17th July to a San Francisco Dealer in the USA. I have copy of the last USA 'Certificate of Title'. It was imported to the UK on 20th February 2013, I purchased it on 6th March 2013 and commenced full restoration. It was registered (with V5C document) as 258UYO on 1st December 2015 with the original engine and chassis numbers.

The car was fully stripped, the steel bonnet and rear wing and trunk cover assembly were separated so as to gain access to the welded seams, all panels and body were sand blasted and etch primed. The sills, door pillars, floor panel etc. were replaced, the bonnet and trunk cover assemblies were bolted together this avoids the spot welding which destroys the paint in the seams and allows greater access when painting. Particular attention was given to panel gaps. It is an all steel car and was then painted in cellulose in the original Leaf Green. All box sections were injected with Waxoyl.

It was converted to RHD. All mechanicals engine (original 948cc), gearbox, axle, suspension etc. were restored with new parts as required. The rebuild was to original specification, with the exception of a rib-sided gearbox was fitted (the original smooth-side box was retained and included in the sale). Included in the rebuild were cloth wiring loom, voltage regulator, electronic ignition, correct speedo and tacho, copper pipes, S/S exhaust, radiator core, fuel tank, windscreen, seat belts and AH Spares supplied correct speedo and tacho, copper pipes, S/S exhaust, radiator core, fuel tank, windscreen and AH Spares supplied trunk lining kit, Jaguar quality carpets, leather seat covers, interior trim and hood.

The car drives very well and has only cover some 150 summer miles since the rebuild, it has always been garaged.
