The luxurious cream leather upholstery is a superb contrast to the deep red exterior paintwork and black roof. The supple leather retains an unblemished appearance with a lovely factory texture having never been re-connolised. The seat bases and bolsters show no signs of any sagging or adverse wear, and the electronic lumbar support operates just as it should. The original deep pile carpet is in excellent order and unmarked. The Burr Walnut inlays are all in original excellent order with no cracking or lifting. All interior lighting, gauges, switches and electrics work as they should.

Finished in factory Signal Red with dual pinstripe the paintwork has a brilliant uniformed deep shine throughout. All original panels are perfectly straight, totally rust free and gaps as per it left the factory. All original lights front and rear are in exceptional order with uniformed colour and a silky polished finish. The original electric mohair soft top operates swiftly, quietly and smoothly, there is no evidence of wear and it still has an even deep black finish as does the Factory supplied tonneau cover. All brightwork is in great original order as are the rubber bumper inserts which tend to distort and fade with age. Wonderful...

The original Jaguar 15-inch lattice wheels have been restored to the highest standard having been beautifully refurbished in recent years. They are shod in a matching set of excellent Pirelli P600 235/60 R15 tyres. Brakes are excellent all round, they pull up strong and are perfectly balanced there is a receipt in the history file for a complete brake overhaul.

The 5.3-litre V12 performs effortlessly whatever the pace and the smooth automatic gearbox shifts exactly as it should with no jolting. Power is linear and smooth, hot or cold starting is instant and no problem. There are no adverse rattles, untoward noises or evidence of fluid leaks. The engine bay is very clean and detailed. Driving this big Cat is simply a joy...

Launched in 1975 the XJ-S had a 5.3-litre V12 engine. Most were autos. HE (High Efficiency) V12 offered better fuel economy from July 1981. Jaguars 3.6-litre straight six twin-cam joined in 1983. Manual only until auto added in 1988. 1983 saw the 3.6-litre XJ-SC cabriolet, with a V12 version in 1985. Both were discontinued in 1987 in favour of the 1988 convertible with frameless windows and a one piece hood. 1991 saw relaunch of the XJS (minus hyphen). Changes included revised rear side windows, tail lights and 4.0-litre straight six engine option. Six cylinder 4.0 convertible joined the existing V12 version in 1992, while the following year saw a 6.0-litre version of the V12 available. XJS production ended in April 1996.
