A very rare and desirable car, being one of a small number of Brewster 'Playboys’ built and bodied in the USA. In excellent sturdy and smart condition, and has recently benefitted from major attention to the engine, steering, suspension, brakes, etc, all fully documented, resulting in a very useable car. Very striking in appearance in bold yellow with good beige leather interior and matching hood, excellent plating, including to the drum headlights, pillar lights and tail lights, substantial tubular bumpers, running board edgings, etc. Very nicely finished inside and out, with some appealing details including a lovely set of correct instruments, twin side-mounted spares and a practical trunk with excellent fitted suitcases, and of course a dickey or 'rumble' seat at the rear. William A Kerr was a New York entrepreneur who was Vice President and Treasurer of several Californian mining companies – Balaklala Consolidated Copper, Balaklava Mining Co, First National Copper Co; these mines also had deposits of Gold, Silver, Iron & Zinc, William Kerr’s manager S. A. Holman was the President of Coram Water Company which was located nearby. Due to his wealth and social standing W. A. Kerr & his wife were members of the “New York Social Blue Book”, the Kerr’s home of 580 Park Avenue had been designed in 1923 by the architect J. E. Ruthven Carpenter, his portfolio of New York structures included 907 & 825 Fifth Avenue, 550, 620, 625 819 Park Avenue and the Lincoln Building, he was well known for his “pairing of buildings” facing each other across the street. Prior to the onset of WWII S306PL changed hands to be with Elliot Robertson whose professional address was with Adler Shoe Stores, 215 W 125th Street, New York, the brand was best known for their “Elevator Shoes” which were “delivered in a plain wrapper”, customers include Babe Ruth.
