Having spent its whole life in the warm, dry climes of Australia until 2015, this example is wonderfully (and very importantly) sound and rust-free, as well as being very smartly finished in its unusual but original Ivory and black colour scheme. Mechanically very good too, a 'big bore' 4 ½ litre example driving nicely & performing well. Complete with an impressive set of original tools, which in itself tells a positive story about the car’s life and history. Several months ago, about £3,000 was spent with a respected Rolls-Royce & Bentley specialist on a thorough service, attention to brakes, etc, and as a result of this, as well as some attention by ourselves the car is offered in fine fettle, ready to use, and to be newly MoT tested.

SNF109 was delivered to the Violet Clara Chessher, the widow of Leonard Alfred Chessher (died 1936) – whilst he was alive the Sydney newspapers were full of the extravagant gifts that he bought for Violet. In 1928 it was reported that “Mrs Chessher is the only woman yet discovered in Sydney who has everything she wants.” A bold statement but it would appear that Leonard’s gifts to Violet included: diamond rings one being the size of a shilling, a Russian lynx fur coat worth £2,000, a Rolls-Royce 20hp. In 1917 for her birthday celebrations Leon threw a dinner party at the Australia Hotel (the most luxurious place to be seen) with each lady attending being given a bouquet of flowers & a box of chocolates. In 1922 Leon & Violet Chessher left by the Cruise ship the SS Narkunda for a world tour – they were away for 12 months!
