Rolls-Royce 20/25

Vehicle Price: GBP 39,500

SALE AGREED

A very handsome, well-proportioned D Back, in fine condition, running well. Some while ago, the car was fully re-trimmed in black leather front and beige cloth rear, and this remains in excellent condition, and has recent carpets to compliment them. The last owner bought the car from us, cared for it very nicely, enjoyed his ownership, but has now part exchanged it for a Silver Wraith from our stock. Nicely painted in black & white, and has some appealing touches, such as louvred bonnet and scuttle, ‘sculpted’ doors and rear mounted trunk. Amongst various invoices, correspondence, old MoTs, etc, in the history file is a buff logbook from 1954. Well cared for and driving nicely, MoT tested until November 2017.

Snippets – Brewing Beer to Triplex Glass
Major Arthur Edward Phillips (born 1877) DSO, purchased GTZ26 shortly before his retirement in 1935 from the Triplex Safety Glass Co Ltd. In 1916, the company’s founder, Reginald Delpech, was quoted in The Flight saying that Triplex Glass “is not only a windscreen, or a pair of goggles, but an insurance policy”. A. E. Phillips was the son of Thomas Phillips, a maltster & brewery owner who at one stage in his business owned 70 licensed houses, as well as the Diamond, Maxton, Dover, Park, Abbey & Camberwell Brewerys! In 1926 Major Phillips joined the board of The Royal Brewery – he had served as MD of the Isleworth Brewery since 1921. In September 1918 Major A. E. Phillips was given command of the North Irish Horse Cyclist Regiment and was mentioned in Field Marshall Haig’s despatch of 9th Nov 1928 and as a result was awarded the DSO on the 1st of Jan 1919. By the time of the Major’s retirement (aged 57)the Triplex company produced glass for De Havilland Mosquitos, eye pieces for goggles & gasmasks and of course windscreens for cars. In 1946 A. E. Phillips was appointed as High Sherrif of Wiltshire, his daughter Elsie (DSO) was married to P. L. D’Estouteville Skipwith-Tyser (a scion of the Skipwith Baronets). In 1957 GTZ26 had been acquired by C B Chandler of Messrs Woolens Ltd of Ashford, Middlesex.
