This is a very nice, low-mileage 1968 Porsche 912: numbers matching, short wheelbase, four-speed, five-gauge, L.H.D., U.K.-registered with new MOT and C.O.A. (see photographs). It is a tax-exempt historic vehicle imported from California, in excellent driving condition, finished in striking Polo Red (colour code 6802 - Polorot), virtually rust-free, with great gaps/shut lines and black leatherette interior which is in first-class order, apart from a small crack on the centre of the dash. It's a real head-turner - I took it to a Porsche meeting at a Suffolk pub the other night (where it was the oldest car) - and it received a standing ovation as we left the car park!
The car drives very well - its steering and brakes are tight, the transmission is smooth, and it holds the road as only a 912 can. The 912 is actually one of the best-handling Porsches out there, thanks to its perfect weight distribution (250 pounds lighter than a 911) - exciting to drive, very agile through bends, and perfect for winding mountain roads, etc., but also great for daily driving to the shops, powered by a flat four, 1582cc, 90bhp engine, and getting around 30 m.p.g. It is also a very simple car to work on, which helps to keep maintenance costs to a minimum.
As all Porsche enthusiasts know, these cars are becoming more and more desirable, and harder and harder to find. Their value is increasing commensurately, as are those of all classic Porsches, with some very high prices being fetched at auction, and this is undoubtedly an excellent, practical investment. Comes with original driver's manual and spare wheel.
