Hence the wire wheels instead of the wooden spoke ones. Three cars were selected at random from the production line in South Bend and then driven to the speedway. The three Studebaker Commander's then set speed and distance records during a 25,000 mile endurance run, held at Atlantic City, New Jersey, in October of 1927.
