Rolls-Royce 25/30 HP (1938)
SALE NOW AGREED
A very stylish 25/30, with a rakish sloped tail, giving a rather sporting and much less formal appearance than some others of its era. The car has just come back to us from the last owner, who bought it from us in 1999, since when it has been stripped to bare metal and repainted, had some chrome work re-plated, fitted with a new clutch, etc. Not a show car, but a sound, correct good-looking example, running nicely and offered serviced and newly MoT tested.

Chassis No. GAR48 Reg. No. EYM 997 £35,000
Snippets: The Mysterious Beryl Ivy Morel Jones.
In 1938 GAR48 was delivered to a Miss Beryl Jones – the daughter of Lilian & Evan Jones (Chemist) who originally hailed from Llanelly. It is not known when her father Evan Jones died but her mother Lilian Suzannah lived until 1940 & was living with Beryl at Westwyn, Tenderden Grove, Hendon. From old adverts it would appear that Evan Jones specialized in teeth & eyesight and today his descendants are following in his footsteps. In the 1960s an excavation of the area was carried out to determine the exact location of the walls and original buildings associated with the original 14th Century building Hendon Place (demolished in 1936), during the dig remains of a brick wall were found beneath the garden of Westwyn which was built within the original estate. After WWII GAR48 was sold to Brig Gen Alfred Cecil Critchley (1890/1963) who by the end of WWI was the youngest Brig-Gen in the British Imperial army at the age of 27! His civilian career was varied - a director of Portland Cement, the owner of Greyhound Racing Association in Manchester, owner the White Rock City Stadium in London, Cons. MP, director of BOAC & Skyways. His private life was just a busy with 3 marriages - 1915/1927 Maryon Galt (cousin to Lord Beaverbrook), 1927/35 Joan Foster (both parties cited co-respondents Richard C. Gibbons the Dance band leader & Mrs Daisy Bendix who later became Viscountess Allenby of Megido); 1938/63 Diana Fishwick a champion golfer – Girl’s Championship in 1927/8. Winner of the English & French Championship in 1932, German Championship in 1936 & 1938, Florida West Coast in 1933 to mention a few. Alfred himself was a keen golfer and prior to their marriage Diana & Alfred often partnered each other in matches – in 1935 they made it to the final of the Int. Mixed Foursomes at Le Touquet by beating John Lithiby (rumoured to be a member of British Intelligence!) & M Tollon.
