Ferrari Mondial (1982)
The Ferrari Mondial designed by Pininfarina of Turin was produced Ferrari between 1980 and 1993; concurrently, for part of that period, with Ferrari's 2-seater 308 GTB/GTS, 328, and 348 sports cars. All major mechanical systems in the Mondial, including engine, transmission, steering and suspension, are either identical to, or very similar to, those used on the matching 2-seater vehicles being produced at around the same time.
At their core, all Mondials are fitted with a V8 engine; these engines comprise: a Ferrari-cast lightweight alloy V8 block with 90° bank-angle; a five-bearing, flat-plane crankshaft with belt-driven, quad overhead camshafts (two per cylinder bank). A five-speed, all-indirect manual transmission using a "dog-leg" selector pattern was the only transmission offered.
Today, the Mondial 8 is considered one of Ferrari's most practical vehicles, due to its proven drive-train, four seats, and relatively low cost of maintenance (major services can be performed without removing the entire engine/transmission sub-frame).
Our Extremely attractive Right Hand Drive example was first registered in March 1982; resplendent in superb Argento paintwork with immaculate new Rosso Leather. It has been the subject of a great deal of attention and expenditure in the last two to three years, as supported by the £23,000 worth of bills for the restoration of the body and a further £7,000 worth for mechanical refurbishment. This really is the best that we have ever seen!
A service was carried out in February 2016 and the odometer currently stands at just 55,200 miles. A clearly extremely well maintained example complete with a massive history file that includes the original handbooks and service record, invoices dating back to the 1980s, and MOTs from 1986 onwards plus a fresh MOT to September 2017 with no advisory's.
Production of the Mondial 8 ran for just 2 years, during which 703 Coupes were created, just 152 of which featured right-hand drive. We are of the opinion that this uncomplicated Ferrari is probably an unrepeatable opportunity to enjoy Ferrari ownership at a relatively modest cost and with the added security of knowing that the big bills have already been met and with prices on the increase this is has to be an excellent investment opportunity.
