A handsome and correct car, smart, sound and running well. The two tone grey paintwork, although having a few blemishes, is in good order and presents well, complimented by a gorgeous, soft and supple red leather interior, lovely woodwork with a gentle sheen, a good quality black hood & hood bag, and a correct set of lamps & horns in very nice condition, including 'Ace Cornercroft' sidelights and Lucas 'Alto' horns. Also complete with a correct Dunlop No. 37 jack & handle, and the original wheel spanner, all in excellent condition. Just returned to its homeland from Canada, back on its original UK registration number, and being serviced, prepared and readied for MoT test. A fine example, in ideal condition to use and enjoy.

Chassis No. B85HM Reg. No. EPH 577

Snippets: Singer Cars, Status Quo & Costard Apples
Gerald Oscar Herbert (1884/1956) was the 1st owner of B85HM, he was a keen motorist & his business interest included being a Director of Singer, Joint MD of Coventry Premier Cycles, Partner in Lambert-Herbert Light Car Co & Chairman Monk Engineering Co. In April 1911 Gerald entered his Singer 15.9 in 4 races at Brooklands, was an entrant in the Fourth 100mph Handicap at Brooklands which was a distance of 8 ½ miles, however, due to the fact that he had “met with a mishap” in the previous day’s practice run Gerald did not race in any of the classes!! The partnership of Lambert-Herbert Light Car Co was only in existence from 1913 / 1914 as Percy Edgar Lambert was killed whilst attempting to regain his land speed record in October 1913 at Brooklands, Percy was to have married and retired from motor-racing just two weeks later. The 2nd owner of B85HM was George Ingram Barty-King, he was a solicitor, trustee of the Grosvenor Estates & Deputy Chairman of the Savoy Group; in 1933 his family added the name of Barty to their surname of King but we have yet to find out why! The family home of Ridgway House in Runwick was, for a short time used as a recording studio by Robbie Williams, Status Quo, & Suede! Within a few years B85HM was sold by George Barty-King and the next custodian was Alan Edwards whose home was situated on a road named “The Custards”, after much research it would appear that this area was in fact previously an orchard with apple trees of the old variety of “Costard” which over the years became Custard!!
